Thanks to all you Kamloops and Kelowna Pottery lovers for making the past two weekend
shows a delight. Meeting new customers and serving happy returning ones is most gratifying and encouraging. Your needs and wants (for pottery) is what inspires my work. I quote my first mentor Bernard Leach from his book "The Potter's Challenge".
"If a potter is making utensils for use he is doing two things at the same time : he is making ware that may give pleasure in use, which provides one form of satisfaction to the maker, and he is travelling in the never-ending search for perfection of form, which gives a different gratification. As these two activities come together and the potter is at one with the clay, the pot will have life in it".
Thank you again for your vital role in my pottery making.

  1. My fear with game-theoretic accounts is that they're too abstract. They might show us an abstract pattern most intelligent creatures will approach, but they (at least at the level I considered them) neglect the fact that all intelligent creatures aren't at this optimum peak, they're somewhere below that. And that, of course, includes us. They are a kind of eschatology of morality, rather than morality, in my opinion - saying where morality will end up, rather than where it is.

School District 83's Annual Art Fair

School District 83's Annual Art Fair in March was an opportunity for grades 4 to 7 students to work with local  artists and crafters. This year's event saw a lot of fishy clay creations in my booth and proud budding artists. Being held in a busy mall adds to the excitement as adult passerby's admiration gives encouragement to the students . The children were always polite and appreciative and full of surprises making it a pleasure to work with them. Thanks to the other presenters and especially the teachers for their good work and organization.

Throwing back Thursday - late (2004 Video)

This video was made in 2004 when I had just begun decorating with "Celtic Knots". I was still using my old Pacifica wheel  back then and using larger loop tools.   Each decoration is unique and reflects years of practice and my present mood and what music may be playing in the studio or my head.

Campfire Pottery for Children of all ages

This is a reprint of an earlier Blog for those who are new or may have missed it. I wrote the original article  to encourage adults and children to explore pottery making from the ground up and at home with local materials. Most children already know how to play with mud and it's the adults who need to remember the joys of water, mud and fire and realize it is all free for the digging and burning and with your time. Clay is an entirely different social medium and can be found everywhere or at your local potter. Campfire Pottery - for Children of all ages Earth , air , fire , water , and imagination are the ingredients. Simply shape a clay mix - let it dry, and paint it as is or “fire” it first to red heat in an outdoor fire or fireplace to transform raw clay back into rock. Adult supervision recommended for firing. Earth : Clay is finely ground earth. A mixture of clay and filler such as sand and or sawdust/straw etc. will dry and fire more easily than pure clay. To
